The Supreme Court (SC) has issued orders for appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman until September 13.

A three-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry issued the orders on Thursday.

During the course of hearing, NAB Prosecutor General KK Agha told the court that several matters of NAB were lying pending due to non-appointment of the chairman and no headway was being made in certain important matters due to this reason.

The CJP asked Attorney General (AG) Munir A Malik that court had given the government adequate time for appointment of NAB chairman, but still the appointment had not been made.

The AG said, “We want to appoint a person as chairman NAB who is not only acceptable at the country level but also at the international level.”

The court, while allowing the government to appoint NAB chairman by September 13, adjourned the hearing in the case.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday.

According to media reports, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Pakistan People’s Party leader Raza Rabbani were also present during the meeting, which took place to discuss names for the appointment of NAB chairman.

Names of Sardar Raza and Rehman Hussain Jaffri came under discussion during the meeting. However, sources said that some other names might also be suggested.
