The Commonwealth is an important forum where the member countries can work together to promote democracy, human rights and social, economic development.
This was stated by Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari who is representing the country in the 59th parliamentary conference of the Commonwealth countries in Johannesburg, South Africa, says a press release issued on Wednesday.
The chairman, along with his delegation, including National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi, the speakers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan assemblies, and other members of national and provincial assemblies, participated in the conference and exchange views with the parliamentary members of different countries.
Bukhari said the member countries could work out a combined strategy towards resolving domestic and international issues by taking advantage from each others’ experiences.
More than 600 member parliaments and observers are participating in the conference which was started on September 1.
South African President Jacob Zuma also addressed the inaugurating ceremony of the conference and highlighted the charter of commonwealth association.
