Ban on gold imports lifted

The import of gold for export of jewellery has been restored by the Ministry of Commerce. The new procedure has been issued vide SRO – 760 (I) /2013 dated September 2, 2013, the same has been hosted on the web site of Ministry of Commerce / Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. It may be recalled that the import of Gold under the defunct SRO 266 was temporarily suspended for a month with effect from 1st August, 2013 as per the directives of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). The chairman of ECC/Finance Minister had assured the traders that he would reopen the import in a month after revamping SRO-266 in order to minimize misuse. As per Finance Minister’s promise, the restoration of import under the revised scheme has already been issued by Ministry of Commerce within stipulated time.
