Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rehman on Thursday said the ban on YouTube would be removed in the coming few days after the sitting of Inter-Ministerial Committee.

Addressing a press conference, she said the auction of the 3G would be made once the board of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is completed.

Anusha said her ministry alone could not remove the ban and the final decision would be made by the Inter-Ministerial Committee.

She was of the view that her ministry had blocked at least 4,000 internet websites that were carrying the blasphemous material.

She was of the view that a technical formula had been finalised that would assist in blocking and removing more websites containing the blasphemous material.

Anusha said a special cell had been formed in the ministry that would respond to any complaints about the blasphemous material present anywhere.

To a question, she said Google did not cooperated with the government in removing the blasphemous material from the websites or getting it blocked, however now the government was working on providing the umbrella of Cyber Crimes Protection to avoid such issues.

She was of the view that once the board of the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) was completed, an auction for the 3 G would be introduced, adding that a few people, for the sake of their illegal businesses, did not want to get the PTA board completed.

The minister said now the appointment of the consultant would be made by the IT Ministry and not by the PTA.

To another question, Anusha said after the removal of certain conditions, new companies could also now participate in the auction.

She was of the view that that earlier there was no system to control the grey traffic, adding “however, now a system is being installed at the PTA headquarters”.

“The installation of the particular system would be completed by September 15, with the cost of around Rs 2,700 million,” the minister added.

    • Can you please elaborate on your comment of Lanat? Seems to me that you don't want YouTube to open? If so, then I am sorry to inform you that you are a sad and mindless person.

      • Do I need to?? Forgot that they uploaded the Blaphemous video and not only this, but their stubborn stance to not remove the videos saying that "Its against our rules."

May I know where were those rules when:

1-) Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth in inaugural IPL and Youtube delete the video within one day ???
2-) Remember the video of Yousuf Raza Gillani with the Sherry Rehman. How come it was deleted within one day of him becoming PM??

Why don't you accept that you all westerns and seculars have problem with Holy Prophet (SAW) and when it comes to him, its freedom of speech. Laanat!!!

        • you are right absolutly butwhere is other countires why they dont say utube to dlte it like suadia

        • You dont know anything about youtube do you? Youtube doesnt uploads the video. The Users upload it. They cant remove the video until X number of People Report it to Youtube and its removed within one day. What we did wrong was ti ban youtube this is not the Solution. First If there is this content then we should not access it, and Second If you even search for it the simple step you can do is report to Youtube. If 1000 or 2000 Pakistan reported it, It would be long gone.

  1. For God sake don't go for 3G licenses anymore as its going to be obsolete , opt for 4G/LTE instead . its shame that at same time country like Afghanistan has 3G service.

    • youtube should be restorred as soon as poossible there is no alternative to this site, like in education and in other relative fields. removing that video is just a call away by our president but our govt. does not took that seriously nor nation. If you think that you people still want a ban on youtube, then dig out any website in this internet world like youtube. there no such website and you need years to build it. so dont argue and face reality.

  2. ppl are using youtube anyway using VPNs. lifting the ban will make it easier to access youtube for those who dont know how to use vpn. Do you think by giving lanat you are showing ur love for HolyProphet(SAW). shame on you. youtube got useful stuff too.

    • @AbsarUT
      Really!!! are you that stupid?

remember the video of interior minister who could not recite a simple verse from koran?
remember the video of lady minister running after the chinese ambassador?
remember the video of a chief minister's son in law beating the bakery employee?
remember the video of a prime minister interviewed by a CNN journalist?
remember the video of a minister's wife caught on camera when stealing the credit card?

so you think that people who like to have vodka and red wine in their parties and who feel nothing when so many people die, who never recite prayers even on eid days would really be so much emotionally attached to prophet? or they really cared about people sentiments when 1000's die almost every month?

  3. Awful reporting. 'She was of the view…she was of the view.' Repeated four times in such a small article!

  4. The ban on YOUTUBE .. even opens backdoor for Xtream sites..I request PTA that they should lift the restriction on youtube. bcoz people are already using youtube.moreover they access even porn sites sung proxy..

  5. It is the stubbornness of Youtube that we should all protest against, not our own government for rightfully banning Youtube.

  6. there is this amazing method which requires a lot less money! you will never believe it! its called, ignorance! it soves a damn hell load of problems. for instance, if ppl would have just ignored the video, we would still have a site that lets us watch videos on certain news n info we probably cant get anywhere else.

  7. lakhoon main say aik banday ko na pata ho ga k youtube kaisay open hoti hai baqi sub chal raha hai plzz open the youtube

  8. DAMN!
is there gonna be youtube or not?
i did not feel like reading it all,but man if the video was so offensive then why not just block it?
i mean come on i don't feel like going to prox every time, it's just sooo annoying!!
but come on am i right or not? huh?!

  9. Youtube ban by Government of Pakistan is just ridiculous because no step has been has been taken by Saudi Arabian Government and the Arab World against Youtube for uploading blasphemous video against Islam.

Pakistan is not the only country following Islam in the world and so to take such huge step of banning Youtube in Pakistan. Saudi Arabia the Pillar of Islam is silent on this matter and have ignored the blasphemous video and have not taken any action against Youtube, so why Pakistan is showing its Talibanistan by taking action against Youtube.

Even the Imams of Kaaba are silent on this matter and have not asked Muslims to take any actions against Youtube in their sermons. So why Pakistani Government is keeping itself ahead of Imams of Kaaba and the Arab World by showing its extremism in following the Islam of Talibans and banning Youtube, when it can easily ignore to take any action against Youtube, the way Imams of Kaaba and the Arab World has shown in this matter.

  10. intersting thing tu dekhen 4nds.. Pakistani Govt ne KHud hi Youtube pr ban lga di.. mgr sab Youtube use krte hen..
Pakistani Govt khud tu kisi rule ko follow krti nai chli hai awaam ko ache bure ki tameez sikhane..
UNCLEEEEE… AGR AP NE BAN LGAI HI THI TU AP TU YOUTUBE USE NAI KRTE NAAAAAAAAAA…

  11. AGR PAKISTANI GOVT YOUTUBE USE NAI KRTI TU PHIR YOUTUBE PR PAKISTANI CURRENT NEWS KESE AA JATI HEN?????????

  12. More tha one year has passed ,these so called lyer & corrupt politicians & Buerocrats can not find a simple solution to open You Tube, instead they are lingering on what a country where a click away goes on lingering, how they will be able to solve any of people problem

  13. This ban thing is seem to me very unfair on Youtube. One of the best educative online network is Youtube and many people's earning source as well. You cannot stop someone earning sources unless it's illegal. I hope Pakistan will soon remove ban from Youtube.

  14. Great news indeed!! I think many Pakistani online users will be delighted to have lift off Youtube and many freelancers Youtube based job will be easier to done. I really admire such decision. Thanks.
