Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N)’s jubilant workers and supporters started victory celebrations on Thursday in the provincial capital as soon as the polling for one national and three provincial assembly seats concluded. PML-N’s supporters were confident that their candidates possessed an evident lead over their opponents.
Jubilant N-leaguers start gathering outside the polling stations and their party candidate offices. The young supporters of PML-N demonstrated their power via small rallies on motorcycles throughout the city and particularly in the election constituencies where they chanted slogans in favour of their party and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the candidate in their constituencies, respectively.
Several PML-N motorcade rallies reached in front of the CM’s Model Town residence where they celebrated their party’s victory.
The biggest gathering of PML-N workers was witnessed outside the Muslim Masjid Lohari Gate where PML-N candidates Khawaja Salman Rafique, Haji Hanif and Pervaiz Malik were present.
The one NA and three PA seats vacated by PML-N’s elected members were toughly contested over by PML-N and PTI candidates. Estimates suggested a voter turnout between 20 and 30 percent in Lahore.
Leaders, workers and individuals from different walks of life congratulated the PML-N leadership on their victory in by-polls in the city.
A PML-N worker at PP-142, Zoraiz Akhtar, said that it was a moment of pride for the country that people came out in large numbers to cast their votes in the by-polls to strengthen the democratic government. By coming out and voting, the Lahoris reiterated their confidence in Nawaz Sharif and his party in their efforts for peace, prosperity and unity in Pakistan, he added.
A citizen, Muhammad Ali, said he hoped the PML-N government would end the numerous problems, particularly the energy crisis. He appreciated the individuals who had come out and used their right to vote.
