In the memory of a musical maestro – Master Ghulam Haider

Prominent singers mesmerized the audience with melodious songs and tunes to acknowledge the services of legendary music composer Master Ghulam Haider at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
The vocalist paid tribute to the legendary music composer, who dedicated his entire life to music.
Renowned violin player Raees Ahmed presented Master Haider’s popular tunes, Amir Raza presented “Dykha Na Tha Kabi Hum Nay Ye Sama” while Shujahat Ali Boby presented “Mohabat Karny Waly Kum Na Hon Gy”.
Nirmal Shah sung “Muj Say Pheli Se Mohabat” and Ali Raza presented “Dil Ko Laga Kay Kahin”. Tarnum Naz presented “Bachpan Ke Yaadgaron” and Sachal Sarmat’s poetry “Mahi Yaar Di Gharoli”.
While acknowledging the services of Master Haider, Director General Mohammad Bilal said, “Master Ghulam has given great names in singing to the industry like Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum, Munawar Sultana, Saigol and many more who have reigned in the field. He truly deserved the title of “Moseeqar e Azam” as he has most of the popular films of that period to his credit including Gulbakoli, Intizar, Neend, Koyal, Ghulam, Bayqrar, Shaheed, Khandan, Laila, Zameendar and Akeli. It is our prime duty to promote, project and preserve our culture assets and introduce it to the new generation. He will always be remembered and be a source of inspriation for the coming generations.” He hoped an early establishment of film academy, revival of cinema culture and signing of cultural pacts with more countries.
Master Ghulam Haider (1908 – 1953) was one of the all time great amongst the pioneering music directors, who did a daring experiment in some of films by combining eastern classical ragas with the rich verve and rhythm of Punjabi music. This hybrid style later became a dominant part of films and he ensured the movie song would never be the same again.
