The Balochistan government on Monday is ready to conduct local bodies (LB) elections in the province following the observation of the Supreme Court (SC) and the decision of the federal government.

According to sources, the Balochistan government will devise a plan to conduct the LB elections.

“After the Punjab and Sindh governments decided to conduct the LB polls, the Balochistan government has also decided to conduct the LB polls before the end of the current fiscal year,” they said.

During a hearing of cases pertaining to Balochistan, the SC had emphasised the need to conduct LG elections in Balochistan without any delay.

Official sources said it could not be decided whether the elections would be conducted on party or non-party basis.

Official sources said that after conducting by-polls on one National Assembly and three provincial assembly seats, the new cabinet members would be assigned the task of designing a policy for conducting the LG elections in the province.

Provincial Minister and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal had said his government would enact a law for conducting the LG elections in the province.
