Daylong rain in the provincial capital completely paralysed civic life and restricted people to their houses.
The MeT Office forecasted more rain during the next 24 hours. The MeT Office Duty Officer said that 10 mm rainfall was recorded in the city on Friday. Although it did not rain heavily, light rain continued the whole day and lowered the mercury levels to minimums and maximums of 23C and 28C, respectively. However, the humidity levels were at 96 and 97 percent in the morning and evening, respectively. According to the weather report, isolated heavy fall was expected in Gujranwala, Lahore and divisions during the next two to three days. As the media had been continuously telecasting reports of flash floods in Cheenab and Sutlej, a large number of people including women visited River Ravi throughout the day to observe the water situation at Shahdara. However, the flood forecasting division recorded low-level floods at Shahdara’s Ravi River for which the district government evacuated the population living at the banks of the river to avoid any untoward incident. And although the monsoon downpour brought enormous problems for the whole city, Lahore’s low-lying areas were worst affected, leaving inhabitants of such areas unable to exit their houses as the roads and streets remained deluged with water. Rainwater engulfed the manholes on different streets and made them invisible causing injuries and difficulties for a number of people and motorists who fell into them while searching for a way out of the inundated streets. The worst affected areas included Bilal Ganj, Sardar Chapel, Mohni Road, Kasur Pura, Karim Park , Mozang, Jain Mandir, Chauburgi, Samanabad, Yateem Khana, Shad Bagh, Chowk Nakhuda, Misri Shah, Chah Miran, Neelam Cenima, MakhanPura, Amir Road, Bhambhey Jhugian, Kot Khawaja Saeed, Sidiquia Colony, GT Road, Sheranwala, Habib Ganj, Usman Ganj, Loha Market Badami Bagh, Lakshmi Chowk, Mcleod Road, Gowalmandi, Gasnda Engine, Wansan wala Bazar, Akbari Mandi, Do Morya Pul, Faiz Bagh, Naulakha Chowk, garhi Shahu, Bibi Pak Daminan, Garden Town, Allama Iqbal Town and Chungi Amarsadhu.
