The Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPD) has accelerated its special operations for dengue prevention during the ongoing monsoon season.
This was revealed on Tuesday in an EPD meeting presided over by Environment Protection Minister Col (Retd) Shuja Khanzada.
Khanzada was informed that anti-dengue teams were assigned special inspection duties. During the past two months, the department inspected 12,614 sites in all the 36 districts of Punjab. Moreover, they issued 4,367 notices, sealed 27 sites and lodged 31 FIR’s against numerous tyre shops, warehouses, scrap yards and under construction sites for ignoring dengue guidelines.
The special anti-dengue squads inspected 2,018 sites in Lahore and another 10,596 in other districts across the province in an effort to eliminate dengue breeding sites, an official spokesman stated.
Khanzada noted that the EPD had been working actively to implement anti-dengue measures as per the Punjab Chief Minister’s directions. He stressed that all the departments would have to work in close cooperation for completely weeding out dengue from the province.
