A city police division consisting of 22 police stations conducted a grand search operation on the Operation Deputy Inspector General (DIG)’s directives.
Sources said that many individuals who refused to disclose their identities were arrested in the operation which was carried out in areas that included Shafiqabad, Pathan Colony and the Ravi and Bund Roads.
Earlier this month, a joint interrogation team consisting of police and rangers officials carried out an operation at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The search operation was conducted in light of the recent attack in the Dera Ismail (DI) Khan Central Jail in which almost 250 prisoners managed to escape.
Initial reports suggested that prisoners in the DI Khan jailbreak incident possessed cell phones through which they had maintained contact with the terrorists.
According to officials, information of a terrorist attack on the jail had been received after which the prisoners’ barracks were searched.
On Saturday, security at the Hyderabad Central Jail was also beefed.
On Sunday, a security exercise was carried out in the Karachi Central Jail. Rangers had already carried out an eight-hour long intensive search in late June.
