Torrents of its-raining-cats-and-dogs cats followed by sun-humidity-and-more-sun remind the typical Lahori that the city is in the grip of typical monsoon climate.
Early on Wednesday, Lahore received a heavy downpour that completely inundated city’s roads, streets and even the posh localities. The accumulation of rainwater in low lying localities has now become a routine phenomenon but the authorities still remain unable to devise a comprehensive solution to this sewage problem.
Rather they turn to drafting ‘Monsoon rain relief camps’ on the city roads where a handful of WASA personnel complete their duty hours, doing nothing to facilitate the clearance of rainwater.
Meanwhile, the MeT office forecasted the chance of rain-thundershowers during the next 24 hours in Lahore and its adjoining areas.
According to a MeT Office spokesperson, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea were penetrating into the upper and central parts of the country, and may come towards the scattered places of Lahore and its suburbs within the next 24 hours.
Metrologist Amjad Mahmood said that heavy falls were also expected in a few places of Kashmir, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sargodha.
MeT office reports revealed that the maximum rain received in Lahore was 09, while the minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded at 22C and 33C, respectively, with humidity at 89 percent in the morning and 66 percent in evening.
Moreover, the Flood Forecast Division (FFD) said that all rivers were flowing at normal levels but the water level at River Ravi at Shahdara was decreasing with every passing hour, adding that floods were not immediately possible unless India released a huge amount of water
