The government is giving serious consideration to a proposal to set up an anti-terrorism commando force on the pattern of US Navy Seals to curb terrorism.

Sources said the idea was shared with US Secretary of State John Kerry in the context of fighting terrorism to get modern arms and equipment from the US. The government is also reported to have sought assistance from Britain for the training of the force.
Concerned military and civilian officials have begun spadework. Sources said the new force, being named as counterterrorism force will be structured on the lines of US Navy Seals that are nowadays being used in raids against the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Sources also said the idea of formation of the force got further boost after terrorists attacked the DI Khan jail. Officials supporting the force say that a rapid reaction commando force was need of the time in Pakistan to deal with such emergencies. They said that had there been an anti-terrorism force with tools to move quickly, it would have given a severe blow to the Taliban terrorists and foiled their attempt of jailbreak.
