At least eleven children were killed and Sindh MPA Javed Nagori was injured in a powerful blast that jolted Lyari late on Tuesday night.
According to police sources, the blast took place during a football match in Lyari’s Sango Lane area, where a number of people were reportedly injured. The explosive material was rigged to a motorbike, lying mangled at the blast site. According to bomb disposal squad, at least eight-kilogrammes of explosives were used in the bomb.
Talking to reporters, Sindh Minister for Katchi Abadis Javed Nagori said he was about to leave after the award-distribution ceremony and was headed for his vehicle when the explosion took place. Javed Nagori was the chief guest at the football match.
Expressing grief for the children killed in the blast, he said at least 11 children were killed and 24 others were injured by the blast.
To a query regarding any threat, the minister said he never had received any threat whatsoever.
Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government issued directives that every effort should be made to afford all healthcare facilities to the injured.
Memon also confirmed the number of casualties.
According to the Edhi sources, four bodies were shifted to Lyari GeneralHospital and three to CivilHospital.
Sindh Minister for Local Government Owais Muzaffar said all the explosions that occurred in the metropolis seemed to be a planned conspiracy.
He said terrorists wanted to vitiate peace and to spread chaos in Karachi by carrying out attacks before Eidul Fitr.
The minister expressed grief over the loss of lives in Lyari bomb blast.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Coordination Committee and party chief Altaf Hussain have condemned the attack.
Hussain said the culprits involved in the attack were enemies of humanity.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also condemned the explosion and expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and injuries to the people.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan also condemned the blast and demanded a report from Inspector General of Sindh Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch.
