Kaira rules out midterm elections

GUJRANWALA – Former federal information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the protest against the removal of the National Accountability Bureau chairman is an issue of PPP Sindh and the federal government has nothing to do with it. Talking to newsmen during his visit to the GEPCO headquarters, he said the masses in Sindh were furious over his removal and agitation was their democratic right. He ruled out midterm elections in the country and added that Pakistan could not afford such extravaganza in the prevailing circumstances.
SHO, SI BOOKED FOR TAKING BRIBES: A criminal case has been registered against Sabzi Mandi SHO Safdar Ata Bhatti and Investigation Officer SI Ather Maan. Both the officers have been arrested and confined in the lock-up of the Jinnah Road Police Station. Reportedly, the accused police officers arrested the robbers who had looted Rs 7 million, gold ornaments and other valuables from a US-based Pakistani family. They took bribes from the robbers, declared them innocent and released them.
JI holds anti-US rally: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan has warned the American Consulate to stop shedding blood of innocent Pakistanis otherwise an FIR will be lodged against the US consul general besides staging a sit-in around the consulate in Lahore.
Addressing a rally here, Munawar said thousands of CIA agents like Raymond Davis were killing innocent citizens in Pakistan. American forces had already killed more than 24,000 citizens in drone attacks while the military operation had destroyed 29,000 houses in the north of the country, he lamented. The JI Ameer observed the federal and provincial rulers were doing nothing in the circumstances. He warned this situation would lead the nation towards a revolution. Dr Fauzia Siddiqui criticised the Punjab government for extending a VIP protocol to Raymond Davis in the jail. She added that one general had handed over Aafia to America while the other “general” had failed to bring her back to the country.
She said Pakistani rulers had made the country an American colony. Thus situation was now heading towards a revolution which would end the era of slavery in Pakistan. JI Naib Ameer Siraj-ul-Haq, Defense of Human Rights Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua and Dr Obaid Ullah Gohar also spoke.
