KARACHI – The Sindh Assembly was told on Friday that community development centres (CDCs) for eunuchs would be established in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur. In these CDCs, facilities of residence and food would be made available, and eunuchs would be trained to become beauticians, besides being imparted training in other fields.
Sindh Welfare Minister Nargis ND Khan said that CDCs would be included in the Annual Development Programme of the province.
Member of the Provincial Assembly Nusrat Saher Abbasi asked why eunuchs were called she-males, instead of using a proper name for them. The welfare minister said that they had approached the Supreme Court in this regard. Responding to another question, the minister said that the government has extended employment opportunities to eunuchs.
She informed the house that with the support of a non-governmental organisation, the government would establish a children’s home in the city with an allocation of Rs 900 million.
