A parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Monday reaffirmed earlier decision regarding participating in the presidential election and to vote for PTI candidate Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed.
The PTI leadership held a meeting to review the final situation in connection with the presidential polls today (Tuesday) and party position in national and provincial assemblies.
Party hoped that Ahmed would be victorious from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. He is likely to get 41 votes from the KP.
PTI leaders were of the opinion that now when there are only two candidates in the run for the presidential office at least the parties who are against the policies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz should not waste this chance and strengthen the PTI candidate.
While addressing the meeting, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the decision for giving a go-ahead to the party candidate was constitutionally correct and the PTI would stand with Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed.
He said that Khursheed Shah, being the leader of the opposition, failed in playing his due role and to bring all opposition parties on the same page, adding that it was the job of the opposition leader to convince others for a joint strategy.
The PTI leadership also decided to make last efforts to convince the lawmakers to cast their votes in favour of the PTI candidate, adding that this could prove a golden opportunity for opposition to get united.
The meeting decided that its members would poll their votes in favour of the PTI candidate, despite the fact that changing the election date was not a good decision.
The polling will start at 10am and end at 3pm. Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim will announce the result.
