A meeting of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Monday decided to boycott the presidential election being held on Tuesday.
The meeting was held at the Parliament House which was attended by the party’s parliamentarians.
PPP leader Shazia Marri said party lawmakers would not come to the Parliament House since the house would turn into a polling station for holding of presidential election.
“We have decided not to attend the session as the party has already announced to boycott the presidential election,” she added.
She said the party’s decision was not against the democratic process and rather it was raising its voice against rescheduling the presidential election in needless hurry and reflected a pre-poll rigging.
She said that the PPP candidate had been deprived of appropriate time for canvassing and hence the unnecessary rush for holding the election had tantamount to injustice and not providing level-playing field to its candidate.
