India to construct another dam on River Chenab
India has started preparations to build another dam on River Chenab which will be five times larger than the Baglihar Dam while the Indus Water Commission (IWC) in Pakistan has not even submitted an objection against the project.
Media reports said India had issued tenders in connection to the construction of the Ratle Dam on River Chenab, located in the Kishtawar area of Indian occupied Kashmir.
The dam, which is planned to be constructed in four years, would have the capacity to store one million acre water and produce 850 megawatts of electricity.
According to media reports, Indus Water Treaty (IWT) Commission Commissioner Mirza Asif Baig said Pakistan had already objected to India’s project which was an open violation of the IWT Pact 1960.He said the construction of this dam would severely affect the flow of water in River Chenab.
if you are not going to built dams, someon elsee will, obviously for themselves not you.
I thought that Pakistan & India had some agreement about the usage of river waters, only knowledgeable Pakistanis can comment about this. Is it according to that agreement, or violates it?
according to Indus Water Treaty 1960, 3 rivers (Chenab, jehlum and Indus) are to be used by Pakistan, so it is open violation of IWT, where is pakistani officials, they must defend theirselves in UN.
The Treaty said: “India shall be under obligation to let flow all waters of the western rivers, and shall not permit any interference with these waters, except for the following uses, restricted in the case of each of the river drainage basins of the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab: (a) domestic use, (b) non-consumptive use, (c) specified agricultural use, and (d) generation of hydroelectric power.”

pakistani government parochialism is the the result of indian violation of rules.

Indus water treaty clearly states that india can build "run of the river" rpojects for hydroelectric power and it gives india "unlimited " use of hydroelectric power. Pls refer to the treaty . stating just facts
Plz dont misguide public. The facts stated in above report are distorted and manipulated. Ratle will not be 5 times as big as Baglihar. And IWT permits construction of hydroelectric projects on Western tributaries of Indus, but obvious their capacity has been subject to limits, and Ratle is very well within the limits.
The reports are submitted bi- annually by Indian govt to Pakistan, and there hs been no objection by latter’s Commission due to non-violation.
So plz stop this rumour right away as it is going to create sm unnecessary turmoil.
