Senior Minister for Irrigation and Energy Sikandar Sherpao of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday said Iranian expertise would be availed for power generation and oil and gas exploration in the province.
Talking to Iranian Consul General Hassan Darwaishwand in Peshawar, Sikandar appealed to Iran to help the province in power generation and coping with the electricity crisis.
He said KP was rich in natural resources including oil, gas and minerals.
Pakistan and Iran enjoyed brotherly relations and both countries helped each other in times of need, he said, appreciating Iran’s support during floods 2010 in Pakistan.
Sikandar informed the Iranian envoy that after the 18th Amendment in the constitution the provinces were autonomous and had the power to produce electricity on their own.
Speaking on the occasion, the Iranian diplomat recalled Iran and former KP government’s agreement on different projects and hoped that the sitting KP government would continue those projects and strengthen bilateral ties between the countries.
