Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level committee to enquire into allegations of doctor negligence in the city’s Children’s Hospital.

On July 17, protestors demanded action after three young children who had been admitted to the hospital died. The parents and attendants of the deceased children blamed the doctors for their deaths, inciting the CM to form this committee.

The committee will be chaired by Dr Aamir Aziz, and include a member of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) Tahir Yousaf and the Punjab Health Department Additional Secretary Azmat Mahmood as its member and secretary, respectively.

The goal of the committee is to determine the causes of the children’s deaths; to ascertain the element of negligence if any and to fix responsibility on the basis of their findings. The committee has been directed to furnish its report within 48 hours.
