National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) on Wednesday foiled a smuggling attempt, seizing 10 packets of fine quality opium and arresting two smugglers in the Burhan area on Motorway (M-1).
The police also arrested a gang of five criminals, travelling in a suspicious car on M-2 near Sial Mor, and recovered one walky-talky set, one 30 bore pistol, 18 live rounds, three magazines, a bottle of imported liquor and different types of mobile phone sets from their custody.
As per details, the police was informed by customs inspector, Maqboolur Rehman, from Peshawar that a suspicious white coloured Charade with car numberW-2603 was going towards Islamabad and the police may check it.
NH&MP officers Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Younas Ansari, Police Officer (PO) Abdul Maalik and PO Rafaqat saw the said car in Burhan area on M-1 and signaled it to stop. The car did not stop and sped away. The POs chased the car, stopped it through commando action and took it into their custody.
On searching the car, they recovered 10 packets of fine quality opium costing more than eight lac rupees.
The POs immediately arrested two culprits, namely Naseerullah and Attaullah, both residents of Peshawar. On initial inquiry, the culprits confessed they were trying to smuggle the drugs from Peshawar to Lahore.
In another incident, the police officers DSP Babar Hussain, Senior PO (SPO) Israr Hussain, SPO Hassan Muhammad and PO Shahid Rasool were on their routine patrolling on M-2 in Sial Mor area, when they observed an over-speeding Toyota Corolla Car No.LWE-3501 having a blue police light. The NH&MP officers signaled it to stop, but the driver sped away.
The police chased the car and took it into their custody. On searching the car, one walky-talky set, one 30 bore pistol, 18 live rounds, three magazines, one bottle of liquor and different types of mobile phone sets were recovered.
The POs immediately arrested the five men, namely Muhammad Akhtar, Shehzad, Farrukh Saleem, Yaqoob Masih and Parvez Masih , all residents of Faisalabad.
Later, the police handed over the arrested smugglers and criminals along with recovered drugs and cars to the local police and authorities concerned for further investigation and legal action.
National Highways & Motorway Police Inspector General, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema has lauded the performance of the officers of NH&MP who took part in these incidents and announced cash reward with commendation certificates for them.
COPS ARREST MANY, IMPOUND VEHICLES, SEIZE DRUGS: Islamabad police on Wednesday arrested 14 one-wheelers and 10 outlaws and recovered 1.56 kilogrammes hashish, wine and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said.
According to details, Aabpara police station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mian Imran arrested two persons, Javed Khan and Asif Masih, besides recovering three wine bottles and stolen property from them.
Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) Police Sub- Inspectors (SI), Zulfqar Ahmed and Shams Akbar, arrested Tahir Mehmood and Irfan, possessing 115 grammes heroin and one 30 bore pistol respectively.
Tarnol police station SI Abdul Sattar Baig arrested Mohsin Khan and Baber Khan for having 1.560 kilogrammes hashish.
In a separate incident, two thieves, Tahir and Abid Shahzad, were arrested and stolen goods were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, Industrial area police ASI Muhammad Ashraf arrested six motorcyclists for their alleged involvement in one wheeling. The motorists were identified as Tayyab, Aziz, Kashif, Waqar, Shafique, and Irfan.
Shahzad Town police station SI Hakim Khan, also arrested Bilal, Naeem Khan and Hamza for their alleged involvement in one-wheeling
Koral police station ASI Bilal Ahmed,also nabbed Shahzad, Ahmed Shakir, Jalil Kiyani, Abdul Ghaffar and Haq Nawaz for involvement in one- wheeling.
Golra police station SI Muhammad Fayyaz also arrested Nadeem for having a 30 bore pistol.
Shalimar police station ASI Gulzar Ahmed, arrested another thief Munair Hussain, and recovered stolen items from him.
Cases have been registered against the culprits and further investigation is underway.
Islamabad police also impounded 36 vehicles and 163 motorcycles in different police stations while removing black covers from 25 tinted glasses vehicles, a police spokesman said.
According to the details, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Islamabad Yaseen Farooq, directed all zonal officers, Sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to keep a vigilant eye on mischievous elements, enhance security at police posts and to patrol various areas.
Following these directions, various police stations conducted general holdups and impounded a total of 36 vehicles and 163 motorbikes being driven without any authentic documents.
Meanwhile, black papers were removed from 25 tinted-glass vehicles and 39 suspects were arrested during search operations in various areas of the city.
