The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the attorney general to go through the report containing the information of the usage of secret funds of Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the SC Registrar’s Office.

The apex court also issued notices to former IB Director General Col (r) Iqbal Niazi and Major (r) Farid Jadoon in the case.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the case regarding the misuse of secret funds of IB for political purposes.

The chief justice asked how were the Rs 400 million taken out from the secrets funds used?

Attorney General Munir A Malik apprised the court that the previous government was defending the case but the present government had decided to solve the issue as per law.

Quoting the articles, the AG stated that it was a matter of Finance Act 17 (2013) Section 6, Article 169 of the constitution and an act of parliament.

However, the chief justice remarked that even then the court had the jurisdiction to inquire into the matter.

He maintained that the money belonged to people and the people had the right to know where it was used.

Later, the court adjourned the case until July 18.
