LAHORE – Two robbers were shot dead by a 50-year-old constable in an alleged encounter in the Baghbanpura Police precincts on Thursday. According to the police, two robbers carried out a robbery bid in a house one Naveed resident of Rasheedpura located in Harbanspura Police precincts. The police said that the two robbers looted valuables including gold ornaments, cash and mobile phones worth thousands of rupees on gun point and later tried to escape but locals of the area chased them and tried to capture them.
Meanwhile a constable of Baghbanpura Police Station namely Arshad, who was coming back to police station after performing his duty, observed the escaping robbers near Pakistan Mint Stop on main GT Road and signaled them to stop. The robbers opened fire on him over which he also retaliated. Due to cross firing two robbers sustained one bullet each and went unconscious. Locals rushed them to the Services Hospital where doctors stated one as dead while the other to be in critical condition, who later also succumbed to his injuries.
According to the police, they have also recovered looted valuables from the possession of deceased robbers. SP Investigation of Cantonment Division Police Syed Ameen Bukhari told that one of the two robbers has been identified as Ali resident of Shalimar area. He said that investigations are underway and they will soon identify other robber as well.
