President to address parliament on 21st

ISLAMABAD – The Presidency, as part of preparations for the address of President Asif Ali Zardari to be delivered at the joint session of parliament on March 21, has asked federal ministries and departments to share the achievements they have made in the outgoing parliamentary year so they could be incorporated in the president’s speech. The parliament is set to begin its fourth year with the address of the president. NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza will preside over the session when President Zardari addresses the house.
A source in the NA Secretariat told Pakistan Today that the passage of the 18th and 19th constitutional amendments, legislation pertaining to the empowerment of women – particularly in which women litigants were taken care of – would be the salient features of the president’s address. Envoys of various countries in Pakistan and other prominent personalities would be invited to participate in the joint sitting of parliament, the sources said, adding security arrangements for the session were under way.
