The appointment of Mustafa Ramday as acting Advocate General Punjab (AGP) was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday. The petitioner, advocate Noshab Khan, has told the court in his petition that the appointment was been made on a political basis and Ramday was not eligible for the post. Khan said that under the constitutional criteria minimum age for a high court judge is 45 years whereas Ramday’s age was far less than the required. He says AGP’s office was a constitutional post and there was no constitutional provision to appoint action AGP. Moreover, Ramday’s appointment was made on political basis in violation of merit because he was closely associated to Sharif family and had been appearing on their behalf in different courts, the petitioner added. The petitioner requested the court to set aside Mustafa Ramday’s appointment as acting AGP.
