As many as 1,726 people fell victim to target killings and sectarian violence in Karachi during the last six months of the current year, says a report prepared by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

In its report released from Lahore, the HRCP said in the previous year this figure was 1,205 during the same amount of time.

The commission said 291 people were killed in January, 271 in February, 311 in March, 262 in April, 278 in May and 313 people were killed in June 2013. It said these people fell victim to target killings, sectarian violence and other incidents.

The commission expressed concern over the figures and said it seemed as it was not the priority of the government to stop killings and violence in the financial hub.
