GCU gets acting VC

LAHORE – Prof Dr Ikramul Haq, a noted biotechnologist and Sitara-e-Imtiaz professor, took charge as acting vice chancellor (VC) of the Government College University (GCU) on Thursday. The Old Ravians’ Union thanked Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman on Ikram’s appointment. Prof Ikarm was working as GCU Faculty of Science and Information Technology dean and Institute of Biotechnology director. He did his post doctorate from Cornell University, New York as a Fulbright scholar and was thrice declared the most productive Pakistani scientist and best university teacher once during the last decade.
He has over 250 national and international publications and five books to his credit. His areas of research are microbiology and biotechnology. Prof Ikarm, also Pakistan Botanical Society president, has carried out 12 significant research projects with Pakistan Science Foundation, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, HEC and Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. He is also referee of five reputed international journals such as “Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry”, “Biotechnology Progress”, “Biochemistry and Applied Biotechnology” and “Letters in Applied Microbiology.”
