PML-N to name Sartaj Aziz as presidential candidate

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday decided in principle to nominate Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz the presidential candidate.

A lawmaker, on condition of anonymity, said after the 16th Amendment, the Election Commission of Pakistan is bound to announce the schedule of the presidential election by August 9, as the five-year tenure of President Asif Ali Zardari ends on September 9.

The prominent political personality added that the PML-N had decided to elect president from a small province and consultations with the party members and allied parties would be started soon.

Aziz, who has come to the fore as a strong presidential candidate, belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has served as foreign minister and finance minister. His presence in the briefing given to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the ISI’s headquarters the other day carries great significance.

Meanwhile, Syed Ghous Ali Shah has expedited lobbying to become presidential candidate and his name is also being taken in the political circles as the presidential candidate.

  2. Ghous Ali Shah stood steadfast against Musharraf's dictatorship and was in prison from 1999 to 2001. He has achieved many more ELECTED political posts than Aziz and has a much stronger position on merit. He was a very able administrator as CM Sindh. Ghous is the man for Pakistan with his presence being felt in all four provinces.

  3. Good choice! Glad that PML (N) has learnt from past experience. Also glad that the Presidency is not being being passed on to some Lahori boy or Allah Billah Mukhdoom of no land.

  4. For political reasons, a Sindhi may be a better choice. Both candidates have been loyal to Nawaz and so that cannot be the deciding factor.

    However, the current squatter is a Sindhi and he has been a national disaster for Sindh and Pakistan.

    How about offering the Presidency to Imran Khan?

  5. imran khan can not be an option as he is arrogent moody immature egotistical and is into blame game .. he can not see the picture as a whole.. he is still into point scoring .. its about him always ..

    • Also he is not corrupt, pays his taxes, declares his assets and does not get engaged in MONEY LAUNDERING. Always speaks the truth and built SHAUKATH KHANUM HOSPITAL and UNIVERSITY for poor students.

  6. sartaj aziz is a great choice .. stable and a mature man experienced in the field of representing the country ..

  7. sirtaj aziz is much better than ghois ali shah.he is a one of the great preson in pakistan.

  8. If this country can choose Mr Asif Ali Zardari as President than the next logical choice should be Mr Altaf Hussain.

    • If people of Pakistan can chose Nawaz Sharif(The most dum man) as PM, then disaster will follow logically. He is such a dum man that he need LUQMAS of his son during international press conferences.

  9. Syed Ghaus Ali shah is also good choice. He is experienced person. Was a judge of High court. He also worked as Defence Minister of Pakistan and chief minister of Sindh. He is party president of Sindh.
    Has proved to be loyal to the party.

  10. This will be a mistake. PMLN should appoint a neutral candidate from Baluchistan and KPK as President, not one from their own party.
