Measles devour three more

Measles on Wednesday claimed three more lives; one in the city and two in Rahim Yar Khan. The measles death toll in the province has raised to 186.

According to Health Department officials, a death was reported from the city’s Children Hospital and the victim was identified as one-year-old Gulfam of Ferozwala.

While in Rahim Yar Khan, two measles affected children who were under treatment in Sheikh Zaid Hospital died, raising the death toll to six in last three months across the district.

As many as 99 new cases of measles were reported from Punjab, including 13 from the city hospitals, increasing the total number of cases to 21,817 during the last six months.

Meanwhile, Additional Director for EPI Dr Nazir Hussain urged people to cooperate with vaccinators and contact doctors without any delay in case of measles. He appealed to parents to get their children vaccinated in the current anti-measles drive which would continue till July 18.

Measles have been spreading rapidly in the province and affected children have been brought in the hospitals every day as anti-measles campaign launched by the government was ended but measles disease could not be controlled.
