Justice Jawad S Khawaja has remarked faith is not such a weak thing that any person becomes proselyte easily.
“The countries which claim to be highly developed countries are set to stem the flood of obscenity. US government is also taking steps in this context.”
This matter has not come up for the first time. But the petitioner Muhammad Hanif says all TV programmes should be run as per his will otherwise all TV channels be set ablaze. In his sight, it is easy to become proselyte. But we say faith is not such a weak thing that any one becomes proselyte easily”, Justice Jawad gave these remarks while presiding over a 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of a petition seeking disposal of late Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad’s petition against obscene programmes on TV channels.
Justice Khilji Arif remarked, “It is being said from JI now that it does not care for whatever is screened on TV. This is highly regrettable. Qazi Hussain Ahmad had not come to the SC for the sake of his person,”
Petitioner Muhammad Hanif told the court that the JI does not want to contest this case with reference to obscenity further after the death of Qazi Hussain Ahmad.
While expressing regret, the court remarked it could not dispose of this case.
The petitioner said further drama entitled ‘Serat-e-Mustaqim’ is being screened on TV which has crossed all the limits of obscenity and immodesty. All those who are exhibiting and watching it have gone proselytes.
The court rejected the plea seeking disposal of petition filed by late Qazi Hussain Ahmad against the dramas fomenting obscenity and other obscene programmes on media.
The court said the case should be fixed for hearing after summer vacation.
