Annual Environment Excellence Awards 2013 held

As many as 64 renowned companies were conferred the 10th Annual Environment Excellence Awards 2013 at a ceremony attended by glitterati of renowned chairmen, CEOs, and heads of public and private sectors.
Local manufacturer and exporter of home textiles Al-Rahim Textile Industries showed outstanding performance in this competition and unanimously selected by independent award jury for 10th Annual Environment Excellence Awards 2013. Al-Rahim Textile Industries was awarded by National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) because of running ‘Healthy Environment for All (HEA)’ program within organization, and introducing a range of ecofriendly terry towels in the international market.
Senator Sabir Ali Baloch, deputy chairman Senate, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Supported by United Nation Environment Program, the environment excellence awards are annually organised by NFEH, Publicity Channel, and Energy Update Pakistan.
In his address, Baloch said that in a global business environment only environment-friendly businesses can achieve long-term growth, and this is our collective responsibility to make sure that environmental and ecological resources remain unaffected by industrial activities. ‘In this context I feel pleasure in participating in Environment Excellence Awards being conducted to recognise and eulogise environment friendly business practices in the country’, Senator Baloch said.
Highlighting the significance of environment-friendly business practices, Faisal Saya CEO Al-Rahim Textile Industries said that in the modern period, sustainability tends to be an essence of industrial goodness and business excellence, and being a successful business organization we get worldwide recognition due to our environmental and ecological considerations.
‘Long past are the days when human goodness was all belonged to the humans only, while machines and pieces of industrial equipment ruled the roost at the cost of irrecoverable environmental degradation and never-ending contamination. Yesterday, this was the natural environment that fell prey to the human greed, and in a complete contrast today has given rise to those of the business practices and industrial operations that fully respect the natural surroundings, and modify rest of the commercial activities in accordance with social and environmental obligations’, Faisal Saya said.
In his speech of welcome, Chairman NFEH Dr Kaiser Waheed highlighted the overall mission and commitment of National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) towards increasing a widespread sense of environmental responsibility within business communities in the country. Speaking on the subject of ‘A Successful Journey for Sustainable Development’, NFEH President M Naeem Qureshi said the all efforts should be to recognize such companies and organizations that continuously strive achieve higher degree of sustainable development and economic growth of the country. These companies, according to Qureshi, are working tremendously for achieving economic and social development without harming the environment and natural resources.
In this year 2013, more than 140 companies and organization has submitted their nomination, wherein 64 companies successfully qualified for the final selection for 10th AEEA-2013. The award-winning organizations include Al-Rahim Textile Industries, AGA Khan University Hospital, Clariant Pakistan, Dawlance, Descon Engineering, EFU General Insurance, English Biscuit Manufacturers, Engro Polymer & Chemical, Engro Powergen Qadirpur, Fatima Fertilizer Company, Fauji Fertilizer Company, Fauji Cement Company, Fuaji Fertilizer Bin Qasim, Glaxosmithkline Pakistan, Habitt, International Power, Islamabad Serena Hotel, KAPCO Kot Addu Power Company, Linde Pakistan, Lotte Chemical Pakistan, Lucky Cement, Murree Brewery Co., National Refinery, Oil and Gas Development Company, Packages Limited, Pak Arab Refinery, Pakistan Cables, Pakistan International Container Terminal, Pakistan Oilfields, Pakistan Telecommunication Company, Pepsi Cola International, Pfizer Pakistan, Philips Electrical Industries of Pakistan, Procter and Gamble, Rafhan Maize Products Company, Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company, Sui Southern Gas Company, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines, Karachi Electric Supply Company, Total Oil Pakistan, Total Parco Pakistan, and Wyeth Pakistan, and many others.
