A powerful bomb went off at the food street in the busy Old Anarkali area of Lahore on Saturday night, killing at least three people and injuring 50 others.

According to police officials, the explosion took place at the ground floor of a three-storied restaurant near Hussain Juice Corner.

“The explosives were detonated using a timer,” a police official told Pakistan Today, adding that they believed that one kilogramme of explosives along with ball bearings and other objects were used in the device which was packed in a black shopping bag.

Among the deceased were six-year-old Sadia Umar and 20-year-old Fahad Tasleem and a 37-year-old unidentified man. Nearby buildings and parked vehicles were damaged by the explosion, which also left a three-foot deep and four-foot wide crater.

At least 10 of those injured have been described by doctors to be in critical condition. They also confirmed recovering ball bearings from the victims’ bodies.

An eye witness, Maqbool Ahmed told Pakistan Today that he was passing through the area with his wife when a “powerful blast took place” at a juice shop.

Ahmed said that he saw at least three bodies and that up to 15 people had been injured, and after the explosion people fled towards the market.

“I still cannot hear anything in my right ear. A lot of glass is littering the area.”

Muhammad Aslam, a milkman, said, “Five of my workers were injured in the bombing. Their names are Yousuf, Faraz, Ali, Razaq and Usman.”

Lahore police chief Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed said that anti-state elements were behind the bombing, adding that stern action would be taken in this regard. Meanwhile, a case has been registered in the Old Anarkali Police Station against unidentified terrorists.

Old Anarkali and the food street is a popular public spot and is frequented by people, especially on the weekends.

BOMB HOAX AT SAMANABAD:

As police and rescue personnel were busy sifting through the rubble at Old Anarkali, an unidentified man called the Police 15 helpline and told them that a bomb had been placed near a burger shop at Samanabad Morr.

Police teams were immediately sent to the area and a search operation was carried out in the vicinity. However, the phone call turned out to be a hoax.

  1. Every one would be amazed to know that if you know some illegal activities, there is no place in Lahore where you can launch a complaint with safety. Our police first of all would snub you and instead of taking any action would put you in problem. Make re-engineering of police department first if you want peace in this country.

  2. Indian involvement possible because Lahore borders Indian and Indian along with other anti Pakistan states don't want see Pakistan peaceful and stable country that's why doing terrorism everyday and Indian stooge like karzai and his government also involved in terrorism in Pakistan.Pakistan government stance is also weak towards India government is too weak they even don't have courage to discuss Indian terrorism even if proofs are available stance of government is too soft towards India where as India stance is always hard towards Pakistan. Also shame on "Aman Ki Asha " makers.

  3. I'm waiting for kiayani to come out and announce once again that Pakistan army is ready to deal with any threats. Thats the pattern. How many wars has the nuclear armed Pakistan won in its history? NONE 🙂

  5. Whether it is Lahore, Karachi, or Balochistan, India is definitely involved in promoting terrorism in Pakistan. It is foolish to think that Indian Hindus would ever be well-disposed towards Pakistan.

    • Stop insulting your own intelligence! Since the beginning of time, one of the easiest ways of getting out of your own follies is to blame someone else.

How many "Indian perpetrators" has Pakistan captured or killed over 66 years? One! And that too a sordid soul called Sarabjit Singh of questionable mental state who was recently murdered allegedly by his inmates in his prison cell at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

  6. Stop blaming other people and other nations just figure out what is the problem with us as a nation , sorry i used a wrong word we are not a nation just a bynch of mean people we are

  7. The blast is unfortunate and is highly condemned…. But Punjab Police takes the lead in arresting over 90 suspects within a few hours, unlike Sindh Police that keeps sleeping over the blasts until the people bury their loves ones and forget the sad episode.

Another reason that Punjab Police is always on its toes is Mian Shahbaz Sharif who always rushes to the crime scene and suspends a few officials for their gross negligence.

On the other hand, Pir Qaim Ali Shah never ever visits the blast site and no law enforcement official has ever been suspended for negligence.

  8. My sweety Heart and Heart of Pakistan had been targeted. It is very sad and deplorable incident. LAHORE KO DUSHMANAON KI NAZAR-E-BAD KHA GAI KHANA KHARAB HO INN LOGAON KA JO PUNJAB KO BADNAAM KAR RAHIA THEY.KIA UNN K KALAIJOAN MA THUND PARH GAI.IT IS HEARD THAT BARKINGS SELDOM BITE,BUT THIS TIME BARKING DOGS ATTACKED THIS BEAUTIFUL CITY,BUT LOOK WE WILL NEVER BE DAMAGED OR HURT IN ANY WAY.LAHORE WILL REMAIN TOP AND WILL REMAIN HEART OF PAKISTAN,NOBODY CAN HURT LAHORE,BUT laborites will come out more stronger and powerful.TUNDIA-E- BAAD-E- MUKHALIF SE GHABRA AYE LAHORE YEH TOPI DRAMAE CHALTE HAIN TUJHE AOUR MAZBOOT KARNE K LIYA LAHORE ZINDABAD AND SHAHEED OF LAHORE LONG LIVE.INNA LILLAH-E-WA INNA ELAIH-E-RAJEOON.ISLAM ZINDA HOTA HAI HER TAKLEEF K BAAD.

  9. The PML-N government has oft been accused of being soft on militants, in particular the banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba (SeS) and its offshoot, the LeJ. It is also being alleged that the Nawaz Sharif government has generously given money to Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) from official funds. All these groups, including the now banned SeS, are known for their hatred for Shias, a sect they consider as being non-Muslims and legible to be killed off. This is no laughing matter. Last year, when Shahbaz Sharif was the chief minister of Punjab, he appealed to the Taliban to leave Punjab alone as his government had neither complaint nor enmity with the militants. It is here one would like to stop the Sharifs in their tracks.
