Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg may have plenty on his mind at the moment but he took some time out from political duties to fulfil a lifetime ambition and meet his hero Mick Jagger. Jagger, 69 last year snubbed Prime Minister David Cameron after complaining he was being used as a ‘political football’, but was happy to dine with Clegg along with their respective partners. Maybe Clegg, 46 was looking for some Emotional Rrescue and was hoping the Coalition will Not Fade Away – what’s certain is that no-one used the words Let’s Spend The Night Together. The pair were spotted at Tuscan restaurant La Famiglia in London’s King’s Road, Jagger with his partner L’Wren Scott and Clegg with his wife Miriam. Completing the party were TV presenter Mariella Frostrup and husband Jason McCue. It is unclear who instigated the dinner, but Frostrup has one of the best contacts books in London. Clegg is known to be a huge fan of Jagger’s band, forming a love of the Stones while at Westminster school. But last night was the first time he had met his idol. He told radio listeners to his LBC show that he would ‘love to go’ to see the Rolling Stones at Glastonbury last weekend, but his busy schedule meant it didn’t happen.Jagger pulled out of an event due to be hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron at last year’s Davos summit, after complaining that he was being used as a ‘political football’. He said: ‘There has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances, which are inaccurate.’ Of the two it was Jagger who cut the more dashing figure leaving the restaurant last night. Clegg wore dark blue chinos with a light blue shirt, open-necked with the sleeves rolled up and looking slightly crumpled. Jagger wore a smart dark silk jacket, mustard jumper and light blue shirt with running shoes. In the fashion stakes it was Jagger’s partner L’Wren Scott who took the honours, looking very elegant in a dark trouser suit with peach blouse and dark shoes. Miriam Clegg wore a white top, dark trousers and carried a large bright red bag.
Jagger is basking in the glow of a triumphant Glastonbury, where the Rolling Stones were generally regarded as the highlight of the weekend. He is now preparing for two concerts at Hyde Park on London, where the stage set will recreate the Hyde Park of 1969 when the Stones played a legendary concert. Jagger has already confirmed that his band will play the same songs as the 1969 gig, including Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Midnight Rambler, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Women, Street Fighting Man, and an 18-minute version of Sympathy for the Devil.
