The Muttahida Quami Movement’s (MQM) Coordination Committee on Friday strongly condemned the fanatical activities of the members of People’s Amn Committee (PAC) in the Lyari, Agra and Taj localities.
Expressing outrage over the killings of Lyari’s varying communities, the committee condemned the actions of what it called the ‘terrorists’ of the Peoples Amn Committee (PAC). The MQM committee said the PAC members were torturing ordinary citizens everyday, while the law enforcement agencies played the role of mere spectators. The committee issued a statement demanding the government to immediately take steps to ensure the protection of lives and properties of Lyari’s citizens. The committee went further by demanding the administration to annihilate the miscreants who had set the said locality ablaze. Notorious criminals of the disbanded PAC have made the lives of Lyari’s residents miserable, the committee said, adding the ‘gangsters’ backed by the PAC were perpetrating the most heinous crimes besides terrorising, extorting and kidnapping the hapless populace. The committee regretted the helplessness of the poor and oppressed people of the Kutcch locality against what it termed a ‘genocide’. The committee said it was the primary duty of the Sindh government to protect lives and property of its citizens besides ensuring the protection of their basic rights. Accusing the leadership of the Sindh province and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of patronising the members of the PAC, the committee stated it seemed no law enforcement agency was prepared to apprehend the criminals involved in such disgusting acts of misdemeanor. The committee said that atrocities being committed against the people had compelled women, children and citizens of all ages from Lyari to stage protest demonstration against the anarchy. Expressing solidarity with what it called the ‘oppressed’ people of Lyari, the committee warned that if the terrorists of the PAC were not arrested immediately, they might spread their net of terror across the metropolis.
The committee demanded Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to take prompt notice of the peaceful protest by the Kutcchi community who were being tyrannised by the PAC members.
