ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly Standing Committee on Education on Wednesday took serious notice of a ‘bogus’ inquiry report prepared by Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) regarding irregularities in recruitment of teaching staff.
The report was prepared by a three-member committee headed by a senior official of Education Ministry, TM Qureshi. The 94 pages report failed to fix responsibility on the liable officials who appointed 451 teachers against the 284 advertised posts in 2009.
The NA committee that met here at Education Ministry with Abid Sher Ali in the Chair directed the inquiry committee to submit new report with fixing responsibilities to all guilty officials. Federal Secretary Education Athar Tahir also showed his displeasure over the report. “I’m not satisfied with this inquiry report,” secretary said. The NA body also attached MNA Tasneen Siddique to assist inquiry committee for exposing the real culprits involved in illegal recruitments process.
Meanwhile, Federal Board of Intermediate of Secondary Education (FBISE) Chairperson Shaheen Khan who initiated a shady housing scheme worth RS 750 million for FBISE employees could not furnish NOC – obtained by CDA- before the committee. During the last meeting she had claimed that FBISE had obtained NOC from CDA for FBISE cooperative housing society at Jinnah Garden . However, on scheduled day she failed to produce it before the NA body. The committee gave her final one week warning to produce the said document.
It is relevant to note here that Capital Development Authority (CDA) has published a public notice in national dailies in August 2010, warning that sale and purchase at Jinnah Garden without NOC from CDA is banned. But, Shaeen Khan while ignoring this warning released Rs 27 million for the said society. Meanwhile, Committee unanimously passed bill for establishment of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University.
During the course of meeting, MNA Rubina Saadat Qaim Khani raised issue of hardship that faced by students of Punjab particularly of Rawalpindi Division during ongoing matriculation papers as they were not given their roll number slips on time. However, chairman committee paid no serious heeds toward this issue.”I think this is provincial subject,” Abid Sher Ali said.
