A four-member committee of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was constituted on Thursday to interrogate former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution.

The committee comprises two additional director generals and two directors. They include FIA Additional DG Khalid Qureshi, Azam Khan, Hussain Asghar and Maqsood-ul-Hassan.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar told the National Assembly that the decision to form the committee was made in the light of 1973 Constitution and 1974 Act.

Nisar said the committee would keep the Interior Ministry informed about its investigation and submit its report within shortest possible time.

Responding to points raised by different members, Nisar said the present government had taken a clear stance on November 3 acts of former president Pervez Musharraf and also took the House into confidence on the matter.

The interior minister said that according to the judgment of a fourteen-member bench of the Supreme Court, only one person was responsible for the November 3 acts. He regretted that Pervez Musharraf was trying to push the institution of the army into the entire affair while he alone enjoyed the high office for eight and half years.

He, however, said that PML-N had all the respect for Pakistan army whose personnel had rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He said there will be no blot on the face and image of Pakistan army due to the initiation of inquiry against Pervez Musharraf.

The interior minister said a meeting of the parliamentary leaders would be held next month to discuss the issues of militancy and security with particular reference to drone strikes. The meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will also be attended by the chief of army staff as well as senior officials of intelligence agencies in order to formulate a consensus policy.

On the situation in Karachi, the interior minister said the government would take into confidence all the political parties to improve the law and order situation in the provincial metropolis. He said he would visit Karachi next month and meet with the governor, the chief minister and political parties there.

Nisar said the federal government will provide all possible assistance to the provincial government of Sindh to improve the situation in Karachi. He said that the provincial assembly of Sindh should hold its session and formulate a consensus policy on Karachi situation.

The interior minister said the government was working day and night to formulate a national security policy. This policy will also be presented before the meeting of the parliamentary leaders and then to the House, he said.

  1. Yes Nasir, keep telling yourself that. The army will see things differently. One man did not stage a coup especially when he was NOT actually on the ground as the tanks rolled.

    • But as chief of Army he was instructing & in Army always the subordinates obey their superior,so one can not blame others who followed his order & instructions

      • Yet a new Chief of Army staff had been appointed by the PM and that new CoAS had the authority to order the ranks

        • This is the problem .You take Army like most other departments in the country where discipline and mutual respect is not the norm. Why do you not see the wrong that initiated all what happened? It was an ILLEGAL ORDER BY NAWAZ then PM to order Civil Aviation to not allow serving COAS to land in Pakistan and take his aircraft any where even India.Violation of constitution started with this order. All passengers of this aircraft were subjected to extreme danger for no fault of theirs but for the whims of a Prime Minister who was elected by may be many of these passengers. That is why Nawaz has decided to now ignore 12 Oct 1999. He will be in the too.

  2. NS and his party are collaborating with CJ to take personal revenge from Musharraf. Another judicial murder in offing.

  3. FACTS: CJP along with other judges took oath on PCO and validated his rule. They all served him loyally for 8 years and did not have a problem with Musharraf's rule untill Judicial Council ousted CJP. Only after being removed from office is when Kana started seeing things differently. Article 6 applies to all who "aided and abbetted". Kana Chaudry must be hung for his crime of validating 1999 coup.

  4. Dual National please have your facts right before embarking on this absurd reasoning above. we suffered for a long time now let this man face the consequences of his action

  5. What a country? A man who discreetly visits the US embassy in UAE and avoids visiting the one in Pakistan for the Naturalization of his wife and daughter is the Interior Minister.

  6. They are Trialing the Musharaf with the help of army, so how can they tried the army itself. What will happen waiting to see in this case after the elections, budget and now a new matter has revealed.

  7. It is PMLN only who is the creation of Martial Law of Zia who converted non-party basis elected MNAs into PMLN in 1985 elections through mammoth corruption and bribery. PMLN product of corruption.

  8. While other political parties like PPP, MQM, and PTI may be accused of indulging in corruption, PMLN is the only party in history of Sub-continent who is the product of corruption. It is bad to be indulging in corruption, but it is worst to be the product of corruption, ie PMLN

  9. Chaudhry Nisar is restarted. Mushraaf is army. He was army chief. Who was Zia ul haq who killed elected prime Minster zulfiqar ali bhutoo. I think Chaudhry Nisar and his party leader should be sent to pagal khana.

  10. It would be the height of hypocrisy and injustice to try only one person when tens of thousands, perhaps most of the ruling class is equally “guilty”

  11. Let me be very clear here Pakistan Today with its Editor are bigest saboteurs working against the interest of the Nation and saleable in the Media brothal.

  12. PAKISTAN TODAY DOES NOT BELIEVE IN FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOR OTHERS.It would never print any comments that reflect the true sentiments of the reader but remove those to please some one.THIS IS SHAMEFULL and contrary to honest Journalism.

  13. The 1998 coup was subsequently legalised by the National Assembly and the Senate. However the 2006 declaration of Emergency by Musharraf to safeguard his hold on power still remains illegal in law. Therefore legally speaking he can only be tried for his second act of abrogating the constitution .
In 2006 as the President and Army Chief it is clear that he was the prime, if not the sole, instigator of the declaration of the Emergency. Now in the Line of legal Backfire Musharraf is trying his best to drag in everyone (along with the kitchen sink) as he did after the disaster at Kargil.
And to think this man had the whole country in the grip of his hand for nine long years. ..

  14. Because of this reason PMLn is allowed to carry on this case as Kiyani wants to present himself as clean man in this mess .Kiayni is accomplice of Musharraf in all plans and its execution and still the most eligible general for court martial ed on NRO, SILALA and Abbotabad incidents but if PMLN would try to trap him, they again would be ditched and whole process of merry go round of ruling politicians would be halted so now PMLn is in mode of "Baghathy chor kee longatee hee sahee.
