The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) revealed the names of fourteen projects selected as 2013 WISE Awards finalists but Pakistan could not make it to the finalists this year. These projects from around the globe represent some of the best and most creative work in education by non-governmental organisations, charity groups, cultural institutions and the private sector. They demonstrate practical solutions to today’s most urgent education challenges. Established in 2009, the WISE Awards initiative recognises innovative approaches to overcoming obstacles to education, with the goal of applying them in other parts of the world.
Selected by a pre-jury of international education experts, the project finalists showcase unique approaches to issues of access, quality, and employment needs. They demonstrate that today’s various educational issues have no borders and represent common global challenges. Projects use a range of technologies, in combination with conventional tools, to achieve results in areas, including: basic literacy and numeric, student-driven curricula, social and financial support and entrepreneurial skills. WISE Awards identify projects that are producing results and showcase them as good practices for others to replicate – promoting change, community by community.” He appreciated the efforts put in by Pakistani project makers and encouraged them to continue thinking progressively.
The finalists were selected on the basis of their project’s innovation, its ability to demonstrate a concrete impact on education, as well as its potential for replication elsewhere. In September, the WISE Awards jury of seven education authorities will choose six of the fourteen finalists as WISE Awards winning projects. These final six will be showcased at the 2013 WISE Summit in Doha, October 29-31. Each project will receive US $20,000.
