The National Assembly on Sunday passed a unanimous resolution to condemn the killing of nine foreigner and two local climbers in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan termed the attack an aggression against state.
During budgetary session, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Deputy Parliamentary Leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi tabled a resolution denouncing the terrorist act.
The resolution’s draft demanded that the government take action against anti-state elements and steps should be introduced to enhance capacity of intelligence agencies.
It said further the incident was conducted to defame and insult Pakistan internationally and would make the country unsecure for the tourists.
To a call attention notice by Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad regarding problems of overseas Pakistanis and human resource development related to work permit and visa for Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries‚ Overseas Pakistanis Minister Pir Sadruddin Rashidi urged for the improvement in policies regarding labour.
“We cannot fight with the labour laws of the other countries especially of those countries where Kingdom rules,” he added.
“Indians are not facing such issues because of their strong and efficient policies when we compare it with Pakistan,” noted the minister.
Earlier‚ giving a policy statement on the GB incident‚ Chaudhary Nisar said the chief secretary and inspector general of GB have been suspended for their failure in providing security to the tourists.
Giving details of the incident, he said the terrorists were wearing uniforms of Gilgit Scout, who attacked around 1am at Fairy Meadows base camp, killing three Chinese, five Ukrainians and one Russian. He said, “One Chinese tourist was rescued safely.”
The minister said security agencies quickly responded to the incident and were cooperating with the civil administration in tracing the culprits, informing the House, “Initial reports say some clue has been found.”
He noted that strict identity checking of military personnel while entering the red zones would be conducted.
“Even those who targeted GHQ were also clad in the military uniforms,” he added.
He said it came to his knowledge that many high ranking officers of Gilgit Baltistan spend most of their time in Islamabad instead of performing duties in their area.
He said there is need that security institutions should not react to every incident but become proactive to stop terrorist acts before these occur.
He said Prime Minister intends to call All Parties Conference and he wants that National Assembly hold debate and give suggestions for preparation of a national security policy.
“I want parliament to take ownership of the security policy and there should be a system of accountability.”
He said he is getting 100 percent support from the heads of security forces and they have agreed to each and every step being taken by the government.
He referred to remarks of chief of the army staff during a meeting that army would follow policies set by political leadership.
Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai proposed the House to write letters expressing sympathies with bereaved families of foreigners.
