As many 11 people, including 10 foreign tourists, were shot dead in the Fairy Meadows area in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) late on Saturday.
A police official said that terrorists entered Nanga Parbat base camp and killed 11 people. GB Chief Minister Mehdi Shah and Deputy Inspector of Police (DIG) Ali Sher confirmed the tragic incident.
The official said that those killed were tourists. According to the DIG, five tourists were from Ukraine, three from China and one from Russia. A Pakistani guide was also killed in the attack. Identity of the 11th killed person was yet to be determined. The official said that second guide survived the attack and was being interrogated.
He said the region had been cordoned off and efforts were underway to arrest the terrorists.
Separately, bodies of nine tourists have been shifted to Islamabad. The bodies were shifted through C-130 military aircraft at the Chaklala Airbase.
The bodies were taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for postmortem.
Meanwhile, 25 tour guides have been arrested in GB on Sunday.
Security forces also took two witnesses for questioning.
The banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the killing, saying it had created a new wing to attack foreigners to avenge US drone strikes.
Spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan telephoned the foreign media to say that the killings were intended to avenge the death of TTP warlord Waliur Rehman in a US drone strike last month.
“We did it and we claim responsibility for this attack,” Ehsan said in the call from an undisclosed location.
“One of our factions, Junoodul Hafsa, did it. It is to avenge the killing of Maulvi Waliur Rehman,” he said.
“We want to convey to the world that this is our reply to US drone attacks,” he added.
Rehman died on May 29 in a US drone attack on a house in North Waziristan, the most notorious Taliban and al-Qaeda stronghold in Pakistan on the Afghan border.
Separately, GB CM Mehdi Shah constituted a police team to probe the killings. According to senior officials, DIG Ali Sher has been appointed head of the team.
Meanwhile, a security official was killed and another injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on a convoy on Mirali Road on Sunday.

Because India is against Pakistan and China friendship . Seems like government is only limited to words instead of practical steps to maintain law and order situation. Also government boldly name anti Pakistan states.
