A petition was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) requesting it to make Law Minister Zahid Hamid respondent in the Pervez Musharraf high treason case and preventing him from performing his duties.

The petition was filed by Ahsanuddin Sheikh on Monday making the federal government, the former president and the new law minister respondents.

The petitioner took the plea that Musharraf had sabotaged the constitution under a conspiracy and had initiated proceedings against the judges.

The incumbent law minister, who was a member of then federal cabinet, also participated in these proceedings against the judges.

In the emergency proclamation order of November 3, 2007 not only were 61 judges prevented from functioning but were also detained illegally.

He further said the motive behind appointing Hamid law minister was providing a safe passage to the former president to flee from the country as the law minister was counted among Musharraf’s close aides.

“The treason case record is kept under the charge of the Law Ministry and Zahid Hamid can tamper with the record,” he contended.

He requested the court to summon the law minister and issue directives on all matters including the record of the high treason case.
