LAHORE – The Association of Lawyers for Philological Amelioration (ALPA) comprising lawyers and civil society activists held a protest on Tuesday on the premises of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) against minority minister Shahbaz Bhatti’s assassination and demanded the culprits be arrested without delay. The protestors were holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans for failing to protect the minorities.
The protestors marched up to CPO Chowk where they held a brief sit-in that blocked traffic for a while. ALPA Chairman Syed Nisar Safdar said that after struggling for restoration of judiciary’s independence, the lawyers would wage a struggle for democratic institutions’ restoration. He said the enemies were trying to detabilise Pakistan by posing new threats to its solidarity one after other. LHCBA president Asghar Ali Gill, Secretary Arshad Awan, vice president Mian Jahangir, Rana Intizhar, Farhad Ali Shah and Raja Zulqarnain attended the rally.
