Army man dies defusing IED

Senior Pakistan army official, Lt Col Sajid on Wednesday died in the line of duty while defusing an Improvise Explosive Devise (IED) in Maidan area of Khyber Agency on Wednesday.

The ISPR, through a communiqué, said that militants had planted an IED along the road at Maidan, considered to be a gateway to inaccessible Tirrah valley of Khyber Agency. Col. Sajid was making an attempt to defuse the IED but it was exploded, killing the soldier.

Belonging to Lahore, Sajid was considered amongst brave and efficient officers of the armed forces. Most recently under his command, the armed forces succeeded in crushing of militants and destroying several hideouts. He left behind a widow and two children. His body was shifted first to Peshawar and later to Lahore.

CONSTABLE KILLED

Meanwhile, a police constable was killed when militants ambushed a patrolling party on Daura Road in Peshawar. Nisar, along with other officials, was on routine patrolling on Daura Road when a group of militants opened firing at him. Nisar sustained serious injuries and shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. However, before getting first aid, he was succumbed to injuries.

The police official claimed that one of the militants was killed in retaliatory action.
