GUJRANWALA – JUI-F leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has said that democracy is at its lowest level in the country as unannounced martial law persists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while freedom movement in Balochistan and lawlessness in Interior Sindh, Karachi and even in Punjab are on the rise. He was talking to newsmen during his brief visit to the city to inquire after the health of former MNA Qazi Hameed Ullah at his residence.
“A united opposition can strengthen democracy as well as law and order situation in the country, so political forces should come forward to do the politics of people and for the sake of people,” he observed. Fazl said insecure feeling of the masses in all the four provinces owing to the poor law and order situation was causing destruction to the economy while capital was being sent abroad. “Restoration of MMA is inevitable and struggle for it will continue so that religious parties can be united to play a better role in politics,” he vowed.
All the opposition parties gathered first time in the last three years and it’s the only way to watch the country’s interests and ensure supremacy of the parliament, he said and added that resolutions of the parliament must be implemented otherwise writ of the government would remain at stake. To a question, Fazl said Indian attitude to halt or restore dialogue on the Kashmir issue as per its own will was very unfortunate and condemnable.
“The issue has become more complicated after 63 years and needs the resolve of both the sides for settlement,” he said. The JUI-F leader condemned the brutal killing of Maulana Ahmad Madni in Karachi along with his son and said the rule of law could only be the way to restore peace in the society. Those elected unopposed by the election committee: president; Ehtisham Ahmad Shami, senior vice president; Babar Shahzad Sheikh, vice presidents; Faisal Khokhar and Ashfaq Khan, general secretary; Shahid Islam Shahid, additional secretary; Nasim Shahid, finance secretary; Nadeem Dar, and information secretary; Dr Tahir Shahzad. The executive council members are: Shafqat Imran, Farhan Rashid Mir, Atif Masood Butt, Raja Habib and Tasnim Cheema while Tariq Munir Butt, Iqbal Mirza and Shabbir Hussain Mughal will be the members of the governing body. Senior journalists, Ijaz Mir and Akram Malik, congratulated the newly elected office bearers and hoped the new body would watch the interests of the electronic media as their predecessors did in the past.
