Interior Federal Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday awarded a cash prize to Islamabad Police Constable Nisar Ahmed in recognition of his honesty.
After assuming the ministry’s charge, he called the constable to the ministry to honour him. He also directed the Islamabad Police inspector general (IG) to issue an appreciation letter to the constable.
The minister had acted on a news story narrating how the constable had handed over a lost mobile to owner Noor Aftab and said that he was greatly impressed by the policeman’s honesty. Islamabad IG Bani Amin Khan also lauded Constable Nisar’s dutifulness, and the constable thanked the minister for bestowing the award upon him.
Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan’s appreciation of the constable comes amidst his declaration to make Islamabad Police a role model by inducting honest and committed officers.
While talking to the media at the ministry, he said that the Islamabad IG and other officials would be appointed and promoted entirely on merit, adding, “We will try our level best to resolve the problems of the Islamabad Police and provide them an encouraging working environment.”
To a question the minister said that no employee would be sacked arbitrarily.
He also announced a competition between police stations: a complaint book would be placed at every police station to record comments by visitors. “An impartial officer from another department would be deputed to note these complaints and based on the number of complaints first, second and third prizes would be awarded,” he added.
The minister said that justice would be meted out with no regard to political affiliations, saying, “There would be no Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) or Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). My concern is to ensure equal implementation of the law.”
Chaudhry Nisar said that he would not use official vehicles, helicopters or airplanes for personal matters, adding that transparency would be ensured at all the ministry’s attached departments of the ministry including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and passports and immigration department among others.
The minister sought the media’s cooperation and urged it to pin point the government’s mistakes, adding that he would avoid self exposure and appoint a senior officer as ministry spokesman soon.
Moreover, Chaudhary Nisar said that law and order was a provincial matter and the federal government was only responsible for providing intelligence and surveillance related assistance to the provinces, adding that such support would be provided to provinces wherever and whenever required.
He also stated that the ministry would be revamped entirely, and Islamabad would be brought under a full surveillance system.
He maintained that even though the country’s law and order situation presented a tough challenge, the Interior Ministry would not be discouraged and would accomplish its work diligently.
He said that Islamabad would be made a model city, with emphasis on its cleanliness, crime and traffic situation.
