Pakistan People’s Party leader Khursheed Shah on Tuesday said leader of the opposition in the National Assembly was the right of PPP as it enjoyed the support of 54 members.
Talking to reporters at Parliament House after filing nomination papers of Makhdoom Amin Fahim for the slot of prime minister, he said the PPP wanted to strengthen democracy.
He said that while keeping in view his democratic character the PPP has decided to nominate Fahim for the election of prime minister.
He said that in the constitution, leader of the opposition would be notified within 30 days, adding that approval of the budget would be meaningless without the opposition leader.
“The PPP would play a role of mature opposition and would play their positive role on important national issues,” he added.
He said that it was a tough test for newly elected government as country was facing numerous challenges and also wished Nawaz Sharif to tackle all issues.
