The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) is likely to waive off additional tax penalties and fines of those who will pay their pending taxes fully by June 30. This will be the “All Time Gift” to habitual tax defaulters by the caretaker government.
Those missing this opportunity will regret for the coming five years as the newly-elected government will not go soft on tax defaulters. It has been estimated that the habitual tax defaulters have not paid Rs150-200 billion by putting up appeals at different fora.
FBR Chairman Ansar Javed told local media that the FBR may decide in the first week of June as to how it will give the last chance to defaulters, keeping within the ambit of law and regulations. He said this last chance will also help take down the number of tax appeals in courts.
