Supreme Court (SC) returned a petition filed for extension in the service of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with objections.
Advocate Abdur Rashid Qureshi moved a writ petition in the court with the stance that the CJP remained suspended for 22 months, so his service period should be extended accordingly terming it a constitutional right of the chief justice.
SC Registrar’s Office rejected the application with five objections, arguing that the petitioner is not an affected party in the application.
The apex court office was also of the view that the petitioner had not raised the issue on a related forum in this regard.
