Newly-elected members from Balochistan met at Raiwind on Thursday to decide the name of the future chief minister of the province.

As many as 27 MPAs from Balochistan’s new assembly belonging to main political parties in the province attended the meeting.

Sources disclosed the meeting remained inconclusive despite best efforts of the PML-N top leaders, including Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch, to reach some conclusion.

The power struggle in the party is the main reason for the failure of the meeting to decide a consensus candidate for the top office. There are three candidates in the PML-N alone vying for the chief minister’s office — Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Chengez Marri and Aslam Bhootani.

But none of them was able to establish during the meeting that he enjoyed backing of most members present there.

Dr Malik from the Nationalist party too was lobbying hard to become the leader of the House.

The Nationalist Party has the majority in the Balochistan Assembly.

The MPAs that participated in the meeting belonged to the PML-N, PkMAP, and NP. Later, leaders of Nationalist Party Dr Malik and Hasel Bizenjo also met Nawaz Sharif.

Talking to reporters, they reposed confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and said they had authorized him (Nawaz) to pick their leader of the House.

They said the PML-N, NP and PkMAP will form a joint government in Balochistan.

Bizenjo said there was no deadlock on the issue of nomination of Balochistan chief minister, adding that he was not aware of any differences within the PML-N on this issue.
