Former Pakistan cricket captain, Inzamamul Haq has termed imposing ad-hoc on regional cricket bodies as ‘unjust’ and an unwise step of the Pakistan Cricket Board to disrupt the development of cricket at the grass root level.

‘It is shocking that the PCB has put majority of the regional cricket bodies under ad-hoc set up and it is a wrong decision which will bring adverse results at club cricket,’ he said in a statement here on Monday.

He said the present regime of PCB led by its Chairman Mohammad Zaka Ashraf is taking decisions in haste without knowing its consequences and the way regional bodies are being treated it shows PCB’s partisan role in favouring their own people in regional bodies.

Inzamam said Lahore City Cricket Association was a role model body which introduced reforms for lifting the club cricket out of gloom after a long gap of 23 years.

‘I fail to understand why LCCA was put under ad-hoc despite doing so good for the cause of cricket at early level under the able guidance of its President, Khawaja Nadim Ahmad who proved his leadership qualities by taking drastic measures to stream line club cricket and to give LCCA a new identity,’ he asserted.

The former Pakistan captain said instead of taking regional bodies on board, the PCB was treating them indifferently as the Chairman PCB was taking every measure to remain in power.

‘There is no representation of regional bodies in the governing board (GB) of the PCB and the recent election of Chairman PCB by a handful of his own favourites in the GB has made his election dubious’, he said.

He further added: ‘Efforts are being made to keep the genuine people (representatives of regional bodies ) not only from their own set up but also from the PCB and through make shift arrangements of ad-hoc certain favourites are being accommodated to work on a specific agenda of PCB to get control of regional bodies.’

Inzamam said in the given circumstances the election of PCB chief has become controversial and his recent decisions has become illegal and unconstitutional as he was not a duly elected Chairman of the PCB in the absence of representatives of regional bodies in the governing board.

‘There is dire need to reserve all these decisions to safeguard the interest of cricket at level which is the nursery of the game,’ he said, adding: ‘I fully support the stance of all those regional bodies which are working under ad-hoc arrangements and I acknowledge the valuable contribution of Kh Nadim for giving a new vision to Lahore cricket.’

He urged the PCB to listen to the grievances of the regional bodies and to give them due representation in governing board to bring democracy in the PCB.
