Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan impressed upon the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif to go ahead with the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project and also hand over Gwadar port to China, ignoring opposition from United States (US) and India.
Addressing a Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque, Hasan asked Sharif to make serious efforts for dialogue with the Taliban and expressed the hope that armed forces would not oppose the idea. It had become imperative to review the country’s foreign policy and free it from outside pressures in the interest of stability and peace and national sovereignty, he added.
The Pakistani Taliban who had been angry because of Islamabad’s support to the US against Afghanistan Muslims, were our countrymen and Muslim brothers and if we brought them on the table, they would not hesitate, he added.
Munawar Hasan said suspending the IP gas pipeline project under US pressure was not in the national interest as the energy crisis in the country had become very serious.
“If a Muslim brotherly country is willing to help us in overcoming the energy shortage and is also ready to bear its expenses, it would be most unwise to scrap the project only to please Washington,” he stated.
The JI chief said the nation’s expression of confidence in Nawaz Sharif also implied a heavy responsibility for the PML-N leader who was expected to break the yoke of US slavery by abandoning Pervez Musharraf’s policies. He expressed the hope that Sharif would not disappoint the nation.

  1. We never heard such statements in PPP Govt, now all the parties wanted to throw full pressure on Nawaz Sharif shoulders. It's good suggestion by JI but 1st check the terms and conditions of Pipelines like gas rates etc, either it's more expensive than Pakistan's own gas, then it's not feasible and beneficial for Pakistan.
